Metso Paper Machinery transforms test paper machine to develop innovative solutions

Metso Paper is currently retrofitting the No. 2 test Paper Machine at the Jyväskylä Rautpohja plant in Finland. Installation work began on June 17, 2006 and is expected to start up in September. This transformation will further strengthen the leading position of this OptiConcept No. 2 machine in the global test paper machine.
The scope of the retrofit includes the addition of a new press section, improved drying section and several other process sections. Through the transformation, Metso will introduce a new paper machine construction program. This solution ensures more reliable operation of the production line and higher utilization and output. In addition, the paper machine can run at speeds of up to 3,000 m/min.
The Rautpohja Factory No. 2 experimental paper machine was started in 1996. This paper machine has been playing a leading role in the development and testing of innovative standard papermaking solutions such as the OptiFormer forming section, the OptiFlo headbox, the OptiPress closed traction press, the OptiDry impact dryer and the HiRun blow box. After the completion, Metso Paper Machinery continued to invest a large amount of money to transform the machine. The latest retrofit was completed two years ago with the addition of the OptiDry Twin impact drying unit, which aims to eliminate the restrictions on the speed of the paper machine between the press section and the dryer section. Today, Metso offers the world's highest speed and highest output paper and board machines thanks to this development and testing on test equipment.
Metso Paper has a total of 12 technical centers, which cover the production of paper, board, toilet paper and all commercial pulp production processes. Rautpohja No. 2 is one of three experimental paper machines. In addition, Metso Paper also has a test board machine, two laboratory tissue machines and a large number of surface treatment and paper finishing equipment. With these test tools, you can test any raw material used from pulping to printing.
